In a historic move towards educational innovation, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan unveiled the “Pakistan Digital Leap” initiative—an ambitious digital transformation framework aimed at revolutionizing higher education across the country. The event, hosted in Islamabad, showcased key technological advancements, with TMC Pvt Ltd emerging as a major contributor for digitizing 25 public sector universities through its proprietary platforms, Maktab ERP-SLCS and Al-Fihri LMS.
The Pakistan Digital Leap marks one of the largest coordinated efforts by HEC under its Higher Education Development Program (HEDP), backed by strategic funding and support from the World Bank. The initiative is expected to impact over 6 million students, fostering accessibility, efficiency, and innovation in Pakistan’s higher education system.
First Holographic Address by HEC Chairman in National History
In a futuristic twist, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman HEC, appeared at the event via hologram, a first-of-its-kind presentation in Pakistan’s academic landscape. His address underscored the urgency of digital preparedness in today’s knowledge economy.
“Pakistan’s universities are now equipped to compete with global institutions. Through this digital infrastructure, we are lowering operational costs, enhancing transparency, and empowering students with lifelong learning capabilities,” said Dr. Ahmad.
TMC’s Game-Changing Role in Academic Digitization
TMC Pvt Ltd, led by CEO Abdul Haseeb, has spearheaded a suite of integrated digital solutions tailored for Pakistani universities. Its Maktab ERP-SLCS handles core administrative workflows—admissions, course registration, examination management, student records—while Al-Fihri LMS is designed to support interactive, cloud-based learning accessible on any device.
“This collaboration is more than a project—it’s a movement,” said Abdul Haseeb. “We are localizing world-class technology to make education smarter, more inclusive, and ready for the digital age.”
Features of Maktab ERP-SLCS & Al-Fihri LMS
TMC’s platforms are developed to align with HEC’s Astrolabes Datacenters and Jidar Network Security framework, offering:
- Paperless Administration: Significant cost-saving by minimizing manual processes.
- Cross-campus Integration: Centralized data access for multi-campus institutions.
- Student-Centric Design: Real-time performance tracking, custom assessments, and AI-driven recommendations.
- Enhanced Cybersecurity: Compliance with HEC’s secure digital infrastructure standards.
- Scalability: Ready-to-expand systems that can support growing student enrollments and hybrid learning formats.
Notably, Al-Fihri LMS pays homage to Fatima Al-Fihri, founder of the oldest operational university (University of al-Qarawiyyin), symbolizing a blend of tradition and technology. The LMS features tools like modular learning paths, multilingual support, offline access, and adaptive testing—making it particularly useful for underserved regions.
Pakistan’s E-Learning Revolution: Broader Infrastructure Underway
The Digital Leap initiative is part of a larger mission to create a national digital education ecosystem. Key infrastructural developments include:
- 7,000 kilometers of optical fiber backbone for academic connectivity
- 20,000 Wi-Fi access points deployed across 96 public sector universities
- Smart classrooms equipped with multimedia tools, virtual labs, and real-time collaboration systems
These advancements aim to provide students with equitable access to learning resources and align Pakistan’s educational framework with UNESCO’s SDG-4 goals for Quality Education.
What’s Next?
Following the initial success of digitizing 25 institutions, HEC plans to onboard 50 additional universities over the next 12 months. Stakeholder engagement with provincial education departments, tech startups, and international partners is also being scaled up to sustain momentum.
