The Punjab Higher Education Department has announced plans to take strict action against government officers and employees found to be affiliated with political or religious parties.
According to the department, it has received multiple complaints claiming that several teachers at government colleges and universities are not only active members of such organizations but also hold key positions within them. Officials stressed that under service rules, no government employee is allowed to become a member or office-bearer of any political or religious party.
The complaints were formally submitted to the provincial education minister and secretary, urging disciplinary measures against the accused staff members.
Those named in the complaints include Dr. Matiullah Bajwa, lecturer at Government Gulberg College; Dr. Hammad Lakhvi, Dean and Professor at Punjab University; Lecturer Abdul Rehman Shariq; Dr. Ibrahim Salafi of Government Shalimar College, Lahore; Professor Abdul Sattar Hamid; and Professor Hamid Abdul Rehman.
It has been alleged that these teachers have served in significant roles within political and religious organizations, a move considered a violation of service regulations. The complainants have called for action against them under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEDA) Act.
