Karachi Intermediate Students Summoned in Result Scam

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has issued summons to students in connection with its investigation into alleged result tampering at the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).

According to sources, the notices were dispatched through students’ respective institutions, directing them to appear at the ACE West office.

However, the move triggered strong criticism from parents after several students—among them female candidates—were instructed to appear around 12:30 a.m. “How can we allow our daughters to visit the Anti-Corruption office at midnight?” one distressed parent asked.

The inquiry, which has been ongoing for nearly 18 months, centers on alleged manipulations in the 2022 intermediate examination results. Despite the lengthy investigation, ACE has yet to establish conclusive evidence against senior BIEK officials. While cases were earlier registered against two former chairmen and two examination controllers, investigators have failed to substantiate charges.

This is the first time students themselves are being directly questioned—many of whom have already passed MDCAT, NED entrance tests, and enrolled in higher education programs.

Back in January 2025, newly appointed interim BIEK chairman Syed Sharaf Ali Shah had announced the creation of an inquiry committee after consultations with the Secretary of the Universities and Boards Department. The committee was tasked with reviewing disputed results, ensuring fairness, and resolving complaints within one month.

At that time, Shah emphasized that “students are the future” and promised that every effort would be made to protect their rights. He had urged both parents and students to share grievances and suggestions with the board, assuring an impartial redressal process.
