
Bangladesh has unveiled 500 new scholarships for talented Pakistani students, marking a step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation.
The initiative was revealed in Lahore during a meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Khalid Hussain. PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. MD Iqbal Hussain Khan, also attended the gathering.
Maryam Nawaz praised Bangladesh’s success in the garment industry, microfinance, and women’s empowerment, calling them pillars of social development. She expressed Punjab’s interest in working with Bangladesh on renewable energy, disaster management, and sustainable farming to foster stronger regional collaboration.
Nawaz Sharif highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the people of both countries and paid tribute to national hero MM Alam. He commended Bangladesh’s economic growth and welfare initiatives, stressing the need for expanded cooperation.
Dr. Khalid Hussain appreciated the Nawaz family’s role in fostering bilateral relations and applauded Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan.
High Commissioner MD Iqbal Hussain Khan recognized Nawaz Sharif’s key contribution to Pakistan’s nuclear program and noted the admiration of Bangladesh’s youth for him. He also acknowledged Maryam Nawaz’s welfare efforts, describing them as beneficial for Punjab’s people.
